CHOPPING IT UP WITH CHEF JURNI RAYNE, OWNER OF GRITZ N WAFFLEZ
Tammy: So I just finished my meal here at Gritz N Wafflez, and I definitely give it 5 out of 5 stars. Can you tell us a little bit about your restaurant and where the idea came from?
Jurni: Okay! I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, and I just missed the flavors from back home. So I just decided to recreate them myself. I had been working in the restaurant industry for a long time, and I was tired of training my white boss—haha, you can edit that out!
I just wanted to create something that’s about community, great food, and great ambience. I had always wanted to do something like that and now I get to do it!
Tammy: Yeah! I was telling the viewers that sweet tea on the west coast is sometimes just disrespectful, but you nailed it. I trusted you because you said that you are from Dallas! All of the other flavors definitely represent southern cuisine. The grits were also delicious.
Jurni: Everything is made from scratch from the creole seasoning to the fried fish and chicken. I know you have a food allergy, and I’m glad I was able to hook you up.
Tammy: That was one of my favorite things! You have a loved one with a shellfish allergy, so you understand that even though there may not be shrimp in the dish, it’s been fried with shrimp or another shellfish. The fact that you create it in a way that I can safely enjoy it is what bumped you up to 5 stars!
Jurni: We definitely try to make sure that our food is safe in all aspects. This is definitely a safe space!
Tammy: Well thank you so much for hosting us today. Viewers, make sure you check out Gritz N Wafflez in Korea Town. Amazing service, very hospitable, and the food is delicious!
INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDARY B-REAL ON DAY 2 OF PUFFCON 2025
Tammy: It’s day 2 of Puffcon, and I have B-Real with me today. He’s done a song with Snoop Dogg called “Vato”. Can you tell us a little more about that?
BReal: Yeah! He was working on that song with Pharrell when I randomly got the phone call. They wanted me to drop by the studio to listen to the song, and once they asked me to be on it I said, “Hell yeah! Pharrell and Snoop Dogg? Let’s Go!”
Tammy: So how does it feel to be a walking legend today around here? Are you getting your flowers? Metaphorically and literally.
BReal: I like to say I’m getting my flowers, and I’m also getting my flowers, if you know what I mean. When I come to places like this, I come with nothing and I leave with everything. It’s because of my years of advocacy, consistently showing up to these events, and just my overall presence in the culture.
Tammy: Any last words? Anything you want to say?
BReal: Salute to my men! Xzibit, Snoop, Dre… just all of my people. Salute to all of y’all!
