2022 Year in Review

It’s Been a Wild Ride—And I Couldn’t Have Done It Without All of You!

If you would have told me last January that 2022 would change everything, I wouldn’t have believed you.

But it did, and what a ride! I always seem to forget how challenging transitions are.

It’s more than just a new place, a new environment, or a new path.

It’s the self being reborn again—and it's painful, beautiful, and chaotic all at the same time.

This past year, I experienced some really high highs and some really low lows. (S/O to all those eclipses in Scorpio!) 🤪😭

But now that the dust has settled, and I’m finding my new normal, I want to give gratitude to 2022.

So without further ado, here are some of my favorite moments from this past year…

HIGHER LEARNING BOOK CLUB: BEACH RETREAT DAY

This might have been the most magical day of the year!

Joined by two dozen incredible humans, and some of my absolute favorite cannabis brands, we spent the day at Hermosa Beach doing my favorite thing—learning about cannabis—while consuming it!

Our beach reading was this ebook by my lovely friend Jade Sancho-Duser: Weed Don’t Smoke The Same: A Beginner’s Guide to Common Smokable Herbs.

It teaches you how to create smokable herb blends to enjoy the added benefits of other herbs with your cannabis. Highly recommend!

After our book discussion, we gathered back at the house to roll up and enjoy a community sesh. The food was incredible. And the flower was my absolute fav from Originals and Source.

I seriously wish I could bottle up the magic that was this day, and share it with you all! But for now, this slideshow will have to do…

P.S. Join our waitlist for in-person events so you can grab a spot at our next gathering. This one filled up fast!

MOVING TO LA….FINALLY!

I’ve been wanting to move to LA for a while now to be closer to work, but I’d been dragging my feet. This year, the universe said, “Time’s up!” and decided to push me off the ledge.

I’ll admit that, at first, I was not super thrilled. Trying to find a place in my price range—in LA—and on such short notice, was not fun!

But I kept faith, and in perfect timing, my new home found me!

If you followed me on IG this summer, you probably remember my ongoing issues with Clutter (don’t ever use them!).

So needless to say, the process of moving wasn’t smooth either.

Then there was the fun of starting my kids in two new schools. But here I am 6 months later, and I finally feel settled.

We’ve all adjusted to our new routines and I’m so grateful to finally be where I’ve known in my heart I was meant to be for so long.

PRESENTING AT THE DAYTIME BEAUTY AWARDS

This was such a special event–incredible to see cannabis take the spotlight!

It was an honor to present The Zen Award to former NFL star Rob Sims for co-founding PRIMITIV with Calvin Johnson Jr.

This award honors the achievements of cannabis advocates.

And that’s exactly what Calvin and Rob are doing by sharing their experience with plant medicine as an alternative to opioids.

This was also such a big fan girl moment for me! To share the stage with the likes of Paula Abdul & Tony Danza had me 🤩

SPEAKING AT REVOLT SUMMIT

This was a big one for me personally—and professionally!

The biggest stage I’ve been on in my career to date, and to be there talking about what I love! #blessed

I was part of The Future of Cannabis panel with Al Harrington, Bobby Shmurda & Berner, with Mouse Jones moderating. And it was completely surreal!

We discussed how hip hop can navigate the billion-dollar legalized cannabis boom that has historically shut out Black Americans by way of inequitable treatment.

I recapped my behind-the-scenes from that day in this reel on IG.

Even better, you can watch the whole panel on Revolt TV now to hear our discussion on cannabis and equity.

CANNABIS EDUCATION x DOPE MUSIC

In 2022, cannabis education met dope music in the premiere of C5’s music video ROLL UP—ft. yours truly!

It all started when C5 was inspired by a conversation we had & wanted to spread the message that weed is a healing plant!

Fast forward a couple of months later, and there I was featured in the lyrics of the song….

…And in the music video!

I talk all the time about how simply sharing your experience with cannabis is a radical act of advocacy, and I love how this experience with C5 shows how true that is!

A simple conversation between two friends led to a song that spreads more positive vibes about this plant.

Watch the full video on YouTube, or stream it on your favorite platform.

IG DEACTIVATIONS + MJ BIZ CON

2022 is also the year that IG deactivated me on the regular—but joke’s on them!

What I’ve learned from this experience led to me taking the stage at the country’s biggest cannabis business convention.

With journalist Lindsey Bartlett moderating, I shared how I’ve learned to grow on social media, in spite of the haters.

Plus how I’ve diversified my platform, including creating backup accounts, and growing my email & text followers

Sadly, my story is not unique—and this is an ongoing problem industry-wide.

But I was happy to have the opportunity to share my experience at MJ Biz Con in hopes of helping even one of the many cannabusinesses out there being targeted.

BIDEN’S POT PARDON

In a year where we most definitely saw the resurgence of Reefer Madness in the media, we also saw some positive progress.

Namely, Biden’s historic pot pardon in October.

And while he’s received a lot of criticism for not going far enough (even from me), I want to take a moment to celebrate that this is still a step in the right direction.

We still have a long road ahead to free the majority of the pot prisoners being held on the state level.

And to provide much-needed reparations for the War on Drugs.

But at the end of the day, let’s celebrate this W. And continue working toward more progress in ‘23.

DANKSGIVING IN THE NYT!

This was another big one, both for me personally (it was my 1st NYT mention!) and a big win for the cannabis plant.

Seeing the cannabis community featured in the New York Times in such a positive light was nothing short of revolutionary.

Stories like these help to crush the stigma and combat the anti-cannabis propaganda that we still see in so many major media outlets.

But…it doesn’t get much more major than the New York Times.

I’m so grateful to have been a part of this much-needed positive PR for the plant that we all love.

CHEERS TO THE JOURNEY AHEAD!

While these were some of my highs from the past year. I am equally grateful for the lows and the lessons they taught me.

So thank you, 2022, for the memories, the joy, the heartache, the new connections, the discernment to let old connections go, and for the growth.

Thank you for preparing me for what’s to come. And as always, thank you for the community that always rally’s around me! It was a wild ride!

Cheers to 2023 and the many blessings on the way! 🥂
